Highland Lynx is a unique breed of
cats....and addictive. Some say they have a dog-like personality
in that they like to play retrieve.
The cat breed has been developed from two feral/domestic hybrid
breeds, the Desert Lynx cat (a bobcat hybrid) crossed with the
African Jungle cat hybrid (with curled ears).
Essentially, the Highland Lynx cats are Desert Lynx cats
with curled ears; the curled ear gene being dominant. They are:
- Very intelligent, inquisitive, active and get
along well with other cats, dogs and with children
- Long med-short hair
- Long med-short tails
- Muscular with longer hind legs and and toes
may be tufted
- Males run 15-20 lbs. & females run
10-12 lbs.
Highland Lynx are affectionate and outgoing to the people they
know and like to be in your presence, if not in your lap.
They are not very vocal and, at first, not very sociable with company
or strangers. A new kitten needs a longer time to adjust to a
new home than a domestic cat. Males take longer to mature,
usually about three years before reaching full growth.
Always ask for an ancestry chart to be sure the cat/kitten is at least
three generations removed from the bobcat to remove the feral nature
of the bobcat.
